What I’m Doing Now
Updated July 31 2026
In Progress
- I have emptied my Mom’s apartment, and am slowly wrapping up her estate.
- I have moved and am unpacking.
- I am caught up with vaccines, and have new glasses.
- I have an actual office in the new place; with a desk and chair. Looking for a computer desk for the eventual iMac purchase.
Technology
- Following the model of Brad Dowdy, I have created a page listing my current analog defaults for writing.
- I am sitting on my hands to avoid buying a new iMac, as I expect current models will be less than the new versions expected this Fall. I write; I don’t need the latest and greatest.
- I dropped my beautiful Project Red SE third generation iPhone on the floor of the garage, shattering the top of the screen. I will use it as long as I can, and hope to pick up an iPhone 17 as a refurb. It makes me very sad to see my red SE now.
Reading
- I am firmly in comfort reading mode this year, re-reading old favorites.
- I re-read Tolkien’s The Hobbit, followed by the LOTR trilogy and Tom Shippey’s Author of the Century and his The Road to Middle Earth.
- I have re-read all 21 volumes of C. J. Cherryh’s Foreigner series for the nth time
- I re-read all six of Dorothy Dunnet’s Lymond Chronicles, again, for the nth time.
- So far the best new-to-me books I have read this year are Amy Tan The Backyard Bird Chronicles and Clare Walker Leslie Keeping a Nature Journal. Both books are beautifully illustrated, and especially worth buying the print versions.
My Now page was inspired by David Sparks’ Now page.
